Keep SMART current

Update your SMART installation.

Already using SMART? Sign out, stop MCP and uninstall the existing installation before installing it again.

Already installed? Reinstall in this order

Finish active SMART work and close connected coding agents so they do not restart MCP while you remove it. Run each command separately and resolve any reported errors before continuing.

  1. Sign out

Sign out of the currently selected authentication mode.

Headless logout deletes the selected credentials file. You will need to configure client credentials again after reinstalling. If you use a custom file, pass the same absolute --credentials-file path to logout.

  2. Stop MCP

Stop the local SMART MCP service. For headless access, also close any running direct MCP processes; they do not use the service.

  3. Uninstall SMART

Remove the installed SMART executable, its managed service, personal credentials and SMART-owned agent registrations. Wait for removal to finish, including executable removal on Windows.

  4. Install the available version

Open the installation guide and run the installer for macOS/Linux or Windows. Then open a new terminal.

  5. Sign in and reconnect your agent

Sign in again, or configure headless credentials again. Reconnect each coding agent you use, then restart the agent and verify your setup.
